Trotman has had loan spells at Halifax, Colchester and Southampton
Preston centre-half Neal Trotman has joined Huddersfield on loan until the end of the season.
The 22-year-old's move to the Galpharm Stadium is subject to clearance from the Football Association.
Huddersfield manager Lee Clark told the club website: "Neal is a player of the same ilk as Krystian Pearce.
"He is what you would call an out-and-out defender. He's powerful, quick and attacks the ball well in both penalty areas with his head and his feet."
Trotman's arrival follows the signing of Birmingham City defender Krystian Pearce from Birmingham City until the end of the current campaign.
"I'm delighted with the strength we have at centre-half now," said Clark.
"There is real competition to perform well now. I have made no secret of the fact that I was looking to bring players in and I am delighted with the two acquisitions that we have made already."
Trotman began his career as a trainee at Burnley and was snapped up by Oldham after being released from Turf Moor.
He moved to Preston for £500,000 in January 2008, but after making three appearances in the rest of the campaign he endured an injury ravaged second season at Deepdale.
A loan-spell at Colchester followed, as did a short term move to Southampton at the beginning of this season, where he scored twice in 19 appearances.
