Histon chief executive Soraff clarifies Lewer situation

Histon chief executive Allen Soraff has confirmed that Alan Lewer is no longer the club's manager, but has been encouraged to reapply for his position.

Lewer's contract at the Glass World ran out at the end of the season.

The Stutes have placed an advert for the position of first team manager on their website.

Soraff told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "Alan was told that we would be advertising for a new manager and that we would be inviting him to apply."

Lewer won just three league matches after succeeding Steve Fallon in December, but saw his budget slashed with several key players leaving.

Alan wouldn't have been surprised to see the advert and it's up to him whether he decides to apply or not

"It was always our intention to keep Alan until the end of the season and review the situation and he knew that," Sorraff said.

"We as a board decided that the best way forward was to advertise the position, see who else would apply and consider Alan in that light.

"Alan wouldn't have been surprised to see the advert and it's up to him whether he decides to apply or not."

The closing date for applications is Thursday, 13 May with an appointment to be made before the end of the month.

Former King's Lynn manager Carl Heggs is currently the only person to have declared their interest in the job, although former Norwich star Craig Fleming has been linked.

Ex-Histon boss Fallon, assistant manager Ian Hart and Mildenhall Town manager Simon Charlton have all ruled themselves out.

Soraff also confirmed that the club are aiming to appoint a new chairman within the next few weeks, following the departure of Tony Roach in April.

"Certain recommendations have been made to us regarding the chairman and we hope to make an announcement before the end of the month," he said.

"Money is not a problem, we're financially secure, but if the chairman we find wants to bring money into the club it certainly wouldn't be refused.

"Our main aim is to reinvigorate the club and create a brand that people want to be associated with."
