Soraff offers Histon clean break

Histon

Histon chief executive Allen Soraff has appealed to fans alienated by recent events at the club to return and lend their support.

Former chairman Tony Roach resigned on Monday citing a lack of support from his fellow board members.

Soraff told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "People don't enjoy confrontation and long-serving members of staff leaving.

"The fans who have backed this club in the past now have the opportunity to show their support."

Crowds at the Glass World have slumped following the dismissal of popular manager Steve Fallon and the loss of several players.

Soraff has admitted Roach inherited a difficult financial situation, but struggled to project his blue-print for the future to the fans.

"Tony put a lot of good work into his football club, but everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses," he said.

"We're hoping that people will return and offer their support and we'll be assessing the size of the crowd over the next two matches before deciding on our budget for next season."

Roach had taken over as the club's major financial backer, but Soraff has confirmed the club's remaining directors have the money to finance another season of Blue Square Premier football.

"We're hoping people will realise they are appreciated at this club. We need the support of the village," he said.

"Obviously if the crowds continue falling then we will have to reassess our position."

Soraff has said that he does not know if Histon can sustain Blue Square Premier football in the long-term, but is hopeful they can capture the imagination of the fans once again.

"We need to find out where we should be as a club, where we are able to sustain ourselves and I think that is the same for many other clubs," he said.

Meanwhile, boss Alan Lewer has said he fully understands the club may wish to make changes to their management set-up.

He was appointed as a replacement for Fallon, but the club have hinted they could be interested in reappointing their former boss once Lewer's contract is up.

"Football changes every day and you've just got to be positive in everything you do. At the end of the day the board will make their decision," he said.

"They've told me they're happy with what we're doing here, but you do need to know where you stand as quickly as possible."
