New Histon chairman Tony Roach has admitted the club's accounts are a cause for concern.
Roach has taken the helm at the Glass World following the departure of Gareth Baldwin after 17 years at the club.
Roach told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I believe we've been very close to administration and I think that's why the board have voted me on.
"We're in a very distressed situation so hopefully my business experience can help us deal with that."
Histon have struggled to attract fans to the Glass World despite their recent success.
While rivals Cambridge United regularly have home crowds of over 2,000, the Stutes are struggling to reach half that.
But Roach has confirmed that the club are looking to cash in on their prize assets, adding that crowds must improve in future if the financial situation is to ease.
"The most important thing, as far as I'm concerned, is to stabilise our costs and start encouraging fans to the Glass World by playing good football," he said.
"Over the last few weeks Steve Fallon has got the side playing good football, so hopefully we can get supporters back into the ground."
Lanre Oyebanjo, Josh Simpson and Danny Wright are all trialling with Peterborough United, while Nat Knight-Percival is also generating interest.
And Roach says that they will need to rely on their youth talent once the star names are gone.
"Histon needs to be about academy kids becoming scholars, coming into the first-team and moving on into the Football League," he said.
"Steve Fallon will need to start listening to his academy directors and bringing scholars into the first-team because he soon won't have the pick of his big name players."
