Histon ready for promotion battle

Steve Fallon
Fallon's Histon are 19 points off Burton, but have four games in hand

Boss Steve Fallon has warned Histon's promotion rivals that his side are prepared to battle hard to hold on to second spot in the Blue Square Premier.

The Stutes' recent schedule has been disrupted by the freezing weather.

Fallon told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "We're pleased with how it's going, we're sitting in second place with games in hand.

"But we've got to start winning games and start picking up the points if we're going to keep that momentum."

The Stutes enjoyed an eight-match winning streak in the run-up to Christmas.

Come Saturday we should have our strongest back four available, which is the first time for a little while

Owing to the weather they have played just four league matches in 2009, and whilst the weather has also meant training has been difficult, Fallon is trying to look on the bright side.

"It could be a blessing in disguise, we might come back rejuvenated, so although it's been frustrating results have gone our way," he said.

Histon can maintain their promotion push with three points at Salisbury on Saturday and Fallon wants his side need to rediscover their pre-Christmas momentum as soon as possible.

"Come Saturday we should have our strongest back four available, which is the first time for a little while," he said.

"People like to say we'd rather be here or there in the table, but we just try and pick up as many points as we can."

With Patrick Ada back from suspension, Fallon has been developing a new 4-5-1 formation to give his side an extra option in matches.

Striker Lee Roache has recovered from a groin strain and should be named on the bench.

Histon have enjoyed a decent run of results against Salisbury in recent seasons, but Fallon is expecting a tough challenge on Saturday.

"They're financed to the end of the season now, so the likes of Matt Tubbs are back and they're more like the side they were at the start of the season," he said.
