Cambridge aims to silence critics

Adie Cambridge
Cambridge made 41 starts for Histon last season

Histon midfielder Adie Cambridge has said he hopes to feature prominently in the Stutes first team this season despite his age.

The 34-year-old wants to prove to his doubters he can still produce energetic performances on a regular basis.

"I'm not quite finished yet but everyone's got an opinion," he told BBC Radio Cambridge.

"I believe I'm good enough and still capable of doing a good job. I'm the fittest I've ever been."

He added: "I think the older you get the more appreciate your body by eating and drinking the right things.

"I feel quite sharp in myself and just can't wait to get started in the league and hopefully be in [manager Steve Fallon's] plans."

But he admitted he has not received any assurances from his manager that he would be featuring regularly this season.

"He's kept his cards quite close to his chest to be honest," he said.

"We're doing different things in training and some things you're included in and some things you're not, so it just makes you think 'am I a part of it or not'."

But he added: "It keeps you on your toes and brings the best out of you, but I still feel I've got a lot to offer."

"I may be 34 now, but age is only a number and I'm feeling very fit at the moment.

"I think I've got one or two people to whom I need to prove I'm not quite finished yet."
