Hereford United manager Jamie Pitman says he is relishing his move from physio to manager at Edgar Street and making the most of his experience.

Pitman was promoted to temporary manager for the rest of the season when former boss Simon Davey left.

"I worked with (former Hereford boss) Graham Turner whose management skills at this level are second to none," Pitman told BBC Hereford & Worcester.

"You mustn't be afraid to pick up the phone and listen to people."

He added: "As a manager you become a member of the League Managers Association and you have a very good network of people around you who put on conferences. I went to one recently where Sir Alex Ferguson spoke.

"I'm no finished article. You've got to learn every day and I have a number of people in the game that I talk to."

Pitman took over with the club bottom of the table in October 2010, and with the side now lying 20th, admits he is used to being put under pressure at a football club.

"There are two pressure jobs in football - one is physio and the other is the manager. As a physio you have to give the manager bad news.

"And if anyone knows what I was like when I played I had a ruthless streak then.

"I will do anything for anyone - I am that type of guy, but there is a line. The players know that line can't be crossed," he continued.

"I don't think I should ever come out and talk about my players, and what goes on in the dressing room.

"I don't think it's necessary for me to come out and say I have given them a roasting, that is for me to do amongst our group and keep it in the group."
