Hereford United winger Rob Purdie says he wants to stay at Edgar Street after his three-month loan spell from Oldham Athletic expires.

The 28-year-old rejoined the Bulls on Friday and scored twice in Saturday's 5-0 win over Stockport County.

"I'm not here to play games to get fit to go back to Oldham," he told BBC Hereford & Worcester.

"I don't have a future there even if I score 20 goals on my loan spell. I'm here to win a contract."

Purdie began his career as a trainee at Hereford and played 223 games for United before moving to Darlington in June 2007.

He joined Oldham two years later but has never played a first-team game for the Latics and was transfer listed in the summer.

His goals at Edgeley Park put Hereford 2-0 up inside 12 minutes and set the Bulls on their way to a win that saw them climb off the bottom of League Two.

"It couldn't have gone any better," added Purdie. "It is good to come back to Hereford, it's a club where I feel at home.

"I had a hip injury and I was misdiagnosed a couple of times. I had three operations last season.

"It's been a long, hard year and then I was told I had no chance playing for Oldham. It's been a tough 18 months.

Purdie's return to Edgar Street coincided with the news that caretaker manager Jamie Pitman will remain in charge until the end of the year.

"I spoke to Jamie when he first got the job and had a bit of banter with him," said Purdie.

"He gave me a chance and I came down and played a reserve game to prove my fitness.

"It's a bit of a gamble for him because I haven't played for 18 months. I hope to be able to repay him."
