Hartlepool manager Chris Turner has praised the efforts of his players in Tuesday's 2-1 win against Tranmere.
The victory at Victoria Park extends United's unbeaten run in League One to three games.
"Every game that they've played in they have given total commitment to the cause and worked very hard," Turner told BBC Tees.
"Now they are seeing a run of results and things are starting to go for us now," he added.
The win over Rovers puts a gap of 10 points between United and the relegation zone, although all other clubs in the bottom half of League One have at least one game in hand on Pools.
Strong winds in the North East meant both sides struggled to create chances, and the hosts were more direct in their approach than on previous occasions this season.
And Turner has admitted that he will sacrifice a more attractive style of play until safety from relegation is assured.
"It looked like a nil-nil game, but we got the three points," said Turner.
"I know the players like to play 'Samba' football and entertain, but at this stage of the season it's about getting three points.
"We want to do that as quickly as possible, if we can get there with four or five games to go of the season then the pressure will be off and we can go back to playing football with less pressure."
