Monkhouse joined Hartlepool from Swindon Town in January 2007
Hartlepool United caretaker boss Chris Turner praised winger Andy Monkhouse after his goal kick-started a comeback in Tuesday's 2-2 draw with Carlisle.
Pools were 2-0 down when the 28-year-old netted his sixth of the season and Turner was impressed with the impact he made in the second period.
"A goal gives everybody a lift and no doubt he's got talent when the ball's played in to him," he told BBC Tees.
"When Andy went up front, Joel Porter started to play too."
It was Porter who scored the equaliser on 84 minutes, his fourth goal in four games, having barely registered an effort up to that point in the game.
And Turner said the Australian striker's unpredictability was worth persevering with when he is capable of delivering goals at crucial times of the game.
"Joel played magnificently in the last 25 minutes and that's what he can do in a game," he said.
"He says it himself, he only played for 25 minutes tonight and nearly won it for us.
"When you're not training to your maximum, you're not going to play well every week, and you're going to have one or two off moments.
"Some guy said to me 'take him off', but if you take him off then you take off a massive opportunity of getting back in the game, saving the game or even winning the game."
