A-League side Wellington Phoenix have pulled out of attempts to sign Hartlepool United striker Joel Porter.

Phoenix were chasing the Australian forward but he is staying with the Teessiders according to Wellington chief executive Tony Pignata.

"His chairman at Hartlepool has stated Joel will remain in England and the contract is watertight," Pignata told the club website.

Porter joined Pools from A-League club Sydney Olympic in July 2003.

A troublesome knee injury limited Porter to just 24 starts in League One last season, scoring nine goals.
