Mansfield boss Peter Shirtliff has called a halt to rumours that Stags captain Richie Barker is set to leave. Barker, 31, was reportedly a target for League Two rivals Hartlepool and now Shirtliff has insisted the player will be staying at Field Mill.
He said: "If I want him to stay and Richie wants to stay then why should we sell our captain, top scorer and a very important member of our squad?"
Hartlepool were looking for cover for Joel Porter, who is out for two months.
