The 29-year-old scored a superb individual goal in Saturday's 4-0 win against Gillingham and Wilson is happy to see the Australian back to his best.

"This is what everybody tells me Joel Porter can do," Wilson told BBC Tees.

"It was a fantastic goal. His general play was good and he brought players into the game. He's created things."

The result gives Pools valuable breathing space from the clubs struggling to stay in League One but Wilson is adamant that he maintains ambitions of a top-half finish.

"We've always been looking at the top end of the table and we're a very positive group of people," he said.

"Let's hope we can start with a clean sheet against Huddersfield and go on from there."
