Grimsby Town sign former Chelsea defender Steven Watt

Grimsby Town have completed the signing of defender Steven Watt on a two-year contract after a successful trial.

The 25-year-old former Chelsea trainee left Scottish Division One side Ross County in June.

He told BBC Radio Humberside:"I had a few options but it's all about playing games, I'll probably get more of the crack of the whip here.

"I feel the side will be challenging for promotion and I'd prefer that over playing in a struggling league side."

The 6ft 3in Scot began his career under coach Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge in 2004, where he made two appearances before spending an injury hit two-and-a-half years at Swansea City.

Watt then spent an unsuccessful loan spell at Inverness Caledonian Thistle before moving to Scottish First Division side Ross County, where he spent two seasons.
