Gillingham defender Simon King has had to undergo surgery on his injured ankle and the club say he is unlikely to play until next year.
The Gills player-of-the-season picked up the ligament damage in a pre-season friendly with Bromley
"Simon had another, what thought was a minor problem, but obviously it's not turned out minor, it's major," Stimson told BBC Radio Kent.
"So the surgeon had to go in and it was in a bit of a mess."
"Now he's got six weeks non-weight bearing, so you can imagine after six weeks, what sort of physical shape he's going to be in.
"He's got to go through the rehabilitation so I don't think we'll see him this year," the Gills boss added.
