Gillingham say they are "really close" to bringing Charlton Athletic striker Chris Dickson to Priestfield on loan.
Manager Mark Stimson thinks the deal should be completed soon and says the only delay is that the Addicks want a 28-day recall clause.
"It's a matter of doing the final bit, Stimson told BBC Radio Kent. "It could take a minute. It could take two days.
"The boy wants to come full lock, stock and barrel. He doesn't want the option of having to be called back."
Stimson added: "If he does well and score goals here and they've got a call-back on him, it can put us out of joint a little bit.
"But also the boy wants to come and play for us and stay."
Dickson, 24, has been Stimson's top transfer target all summer, but Charlton rejected all offers during the transfer window.
He scored 11 goals in 14 appearances for the Gills during his stint at Priestfield in 2007/08.
