Dickson still in Stimson's sights

Gillingham

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson has said there is still a "half chance" that Charlton striker Chris Dickson could return to Priestfield.

The 24-year-old scored 11 goals in 14 games during a loan spell last season.

Stimson told BBC Radio Kent: "I spoke to Dicko, as many supporters would ask, and we've got half a chance.

"There is a club higher than us interested in him. If that doesn't happen early this week then we might be in the hat. That would be fantastic."

Transfer-listed Dickson has not scored in 11 substitute appearances for the Championship's bottom club this season.

Stimson added: "I've said to Chris if there's a higher club interested then go and do it, but if not, come and join us because he'll be loved here and rightly so because of the goals he's scored.

The club's telling me they need him for Tuesday so on Wednesday we could possibly have him, so fingers crossed

Gillingham boss Mark Stimson on a mystery signing

"He will score goals for fun.

"If this so-called club is interested in him why on earth didn't they take him yesterday because I would have taken him yesterday.

"I'm hoping Monday afternoon we'll have a clearer picture."

Stimson almost brought in a loan-signing for Saturday's trip to Morecambe but the deal took longer than expected.

He said: "I tried on Friday for one, but the club's telling me they need him for Tuesday. So on Wednesday we could possibly have him. Fingers crossed on that one."

If that loan bid fails then Stimson may have to turn to the youth-team squad for Tuesday's trip to Port Vale.

There will be commentary of Port Vale v Gillingham on BBC Radio Kent.
