Rob Key was on the original 148-man auction list for the IPL |
Kent captain Rob Key believes English players who win contracts with the Indian Premier League should pay 10% of their auction fee to their counties. The England & Wales Cricket Board have imposed the condition on players. Key told BBC Radio Kent: "If I got picked up by the IPL, Kent would quite rightly expect compensation. "They're my main employer - it's got to be worth their while - but I do think it's different for centrally contracted players," he added. "I think in future, contracts with the ECB or counties will contain clauses about the IPL. This situation has caught everyone by surprise." Key and Kent vice-captain Martin van Jaarsveld were on the provisional 148-man auction list for the IPL, but neither made the final cut. Former England batsman Key added: "England's record in one-day cricket hasn't been great of late, especially in Twenty20, so it's no surprise if the Indian teams aren't trawling through English cricket for players."
