Gillingham full-back Jack Payne has signed a professional contract that will keep him at Priestfield until the summer of 2011.

The 17-year-old made his first-team debut for the Gills as a substitute in the 2-0 win over Chester in October.

Manager Mark Stimson told BBC Radio Kent: "He could stay on the training scheme for another 18 months but he deserves the contract.

"I'm looking forward to him battling for a first team place next season."
