Stimson dismay at Gills boo boys

Stimson was surprised by some of the Priestfield crowd's reaction

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson has said he was amazed to hear fans booing after their 2-1 defeat by Lincoln.

The Imps won the game in the last minute to condemn the Gills to their first home league defeat in 13 games.

A handful of supporters booed at the final whistle and Stimson said he would rather they did not come.

"Stay at home, watch EastEnders, have a row with the missus, watch the telly, but the players didn't deserve that," he told BBC Radio Kent.

"It's sad isn't it? I won't ever win them over but that's not a problem. I don't think even Sir Alex Ferguson will win 75,000 fans over. There'll always be the minority.

"Unfortunately where I sit there are a couple of guys who sit behind me and they keep on and on. Like I said, stay at home. They [the players] didn't deserve to be booed at the end. If they did I'd be the first to say 'boo them'."

The Gills dropped from fourth to seventh in the League Two table as a result of the defeat and Stimson added: "I'm surprised we didn't get anything from the game.

"I thought we played well against a side I thought would be up there and amongst it. They've got pace and at the end that's what's undone us.

"I can't fault any of the players. We were right at it and we just didn't get the rub of the green."

"I couldn't make any substitutions because I thought everyone on the pitch was playing really well. I'm disappointed the run has been stopped, I would definitely have taken nine points from these last four games.

"Still people are moaning but there are some sad people out there.

"We're a really strong group. I get a mad kick out of people putting me down. I had it at Grays and at Stevenage, I really do get off on it. I can't wait for it to happen."
