Gowling has only made three league starts for Carlisle

Gillingham have offered Carlisle United defender Josh Gowling a permanent deal.

The 25-year-old is due to play the fifth and last game of a five-week loan spell against Hartlepool on Saturday.

"We're talking and we're trying to get something done," Gills boss Mark Stimson told BBC Radio Kent. "So hopefully we can take him permanently.

"I think there's a really good chance of getting him, the kid's really interested in coming. He's enjoyed his time here."

Stimson added: "Now we're trying our hardest to make things happen."

Gowling signed for Carlisle last summer after three years with Bournemouth but he has made only six appearances for the Cumbrian side and has spent time on loan at Hereford United.
