Farbrace to retain link with Ford

Kent's next cricket coach Paul Farbrace says consultation with his predecessor Graham Ford will be crucial to the county's future.

Farbrace returns as head coach on 1 September after two years as assistant coach of Sri Lanka and Ford has agreed to help him in a consultancy role.

Farbrace told BBC Radio Kent: "I was involved with him in terms of one-day planning three or four years ago.

"He's still going to be involved and therefore we need to make that right."

He added: "Simon [Willis] wrote up a one-day programme which we all worked quite closely to, and they've been successful to some extent in one day cricket."

Ford leaves Kent at the end of the season to return to his home country but speaking last month, he said he wanted to maintain his links with the county.

"Kent is my county and I've had some fantastic times here," he said. "Any way I can help them, I'd love to do that."
