Palmer will provide cover in midfield and defence

Gillingham have completed a deal for Walsall midfielder Chris Palmer.

The 25-year-old joins Gillingham on a free transfer after turning down an offer to stay with Walsall and has signed a two-year contract.

Palmer is a versatile player, able to play on the left or right of midfield and has also been used at full-back.

He was an ever-present for Walsall last season after joining them in the summer of 2008, making 44 appearances and scoring one goal.
