Gills captain contracts pneumonia

Barry Fuller
Fuller missed the FA Cup tie against Aston Villa

Gillingham captain Barry Fuller is in hospital suffering from pneumonia.

The 24-year-old missed training on Monday after becoming unwell. The Kent club are now awaiting test results to find out the severity of his illness.

"I spoke to Barry briefly this morning and he was struggling to speak, it is that bad," said manager Mark Stimson.

"I hear there are a number of different types of pneumonia and we are waiting to hear what one it is. Let's hope he recovers really soon."

Stimson added: "He'll be in there over the weekend and the early part of next week."

Fuller was due to make his comeback for the Gills on Saturday at Morecambe after serving a three match ban for a red card he received against Brentford.

The ban meant he missed what would have been the biggest game of his career in the FA Cup against Aston Villa.

"We are still waiting for a report from the doctor, that'll take a couple of days," added Stimson.
