Stimson hopes to keep team intact

Gillingham

Gillingham boss Mark Stimson is hoping he can get through the transfer window without losing any key members of his promotion-chasing squad.

Stimson is particularly worried about losing leading scorer Simeon Jackson, who impressed in the FA Cup tie against Premier League side Aston Villa.

Stimson told BBC Radio Kent: "He's massively important, it would be a major hole to lose him.

"It's been great that I've had no enquiries about any of our players."

The Gills boss added: "I hope it stays that way until the window closes, because if you want to progress as a club you've got to keep your best players."

One player who looks like he might have played his last game for the club is former captain Andrew Crofts, who is currently on loan at Peterborough.

Stimson says the Posh would like to extend his loan to the end of the season.

"At the moment we've done Peterborough a great deal - 50-50 with the wages. We know they're not skint, so we're trying to get a better financial deal for us. If not we'll have to make a decision."
