Gateshead boss Ian Bogie charged with improper conduct

Gateshead boss Ian Bogie has been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association following his dismissal at Luton last weekend.

The Tynesiders boss, 43, has until 1600 GMT on Friday to respond to the charge, which resulted from an incident at the end of the first half in the 2-2 draw.

"I am not the type of manager who has run-ins with referees," Bogie said.

"Last season was my first and if the ref hadn't made a wrong call at Luton I wouldn't be in this position."

Meanwhile Bogie says he will not be pressured into making new signings as the transfer window nears its closure at the end of January.

In contrast the club has made midfielder Andy Ferrell and striker Brian Wake available for transfer in an attempt to offer the players' regular football.

"It would be wrong of me to just go out and buy players for the sake of it," Bogie told BBC Newcastle.

"There will not be anything drastic but we're always looking to improve."

Bogie added: "We've got a squad of 23, 24 players, some good young players at the club at the moment, and it's up to me as the manager and Terry [Mitchell] the coach to work with the players we've got and have faith in them."

Gateshead have enjoyed success in the loan market this January, with defender James Tavernier and winger Joan Simun Edmundsson arriving from neighbours Newcastle United, while Sunderland allowed full-back Michael Liddle to link-up with the Tynesiders on a temporary basis.

"Since they have come through the door, we're five games unbeaten and it's not a coincidence; it's because of them," Bogie said.

"We're grateful to Newcastle United and Sunderland for loaning us the quality players we have, and we hope to keep them for a longer period."

Gateshead are currently 17th in Blue Square Bet Premier, with 30 points from 25 games.
