Gateshead capture Stalybridge defender Alan White

Gateshead have signed Stalybridge defender Alan White.

The 34-year-old has agreed a monthly contract with the Tynesiders and will act as cover for James Curtis, who is out of action with a broken foot.

"With Curtis out for up to eight weeks it was important we brought someone in," said manager Ian Bogie.

"I am confident he will do a good job. Losing Curtis was a blow but we now have three good central defenders in White, Ben Clark and Carl Jones."

White began his career with Middlesbrough and has had spells at Colchester, Leyton Orient, Boston United and Notts County.

"White is a player with a tremendous Football League pedigree and he has been a regular for Stalybridge recently," added Bogie.

"He is renowned for his heading ability. He is also a good leader and if he does well we will look to extend the deal."
