Gateshead defender Carl Jones declares versatility
Jones has made eight appearances for Gateshead this season
Gateshead defender Carl Jones has declared he is happy to play anywhere across the defence as he seeks to cement a place in the first team.
Jones, 24, began the season at centre back, but following the return of James Curtis after injury has operated in an unfamiliar right back role.
"I just want to stay in the team, and whatever role I have to play, I will do it," Jones told BBC Newcastle.
"At the moment I'm at right back, if that's where stay, then so be it."
Jones added: "I want to do my best wherever I play."
The former Hartlepool United player missed a large chunk of last season through injury, and was transfer listed by manager Ian Bogie in January.
However, after signing a month-to-month contract in the summer to stay at the International Stadium, Jones has impressed in eight appearances so far this campaign.
Bogie's summer additions have reunited Jones with a familiar face in the shape of former Pools team-mate Ben Clark.
Clark, who began his career at Sunderland, has almost 180 league appearances under his belt and Jones is convinced he and his Gateshead team-mates can benefit from a player of such ability and experience in their ranks.
"I've known Ben a number of years, and he's a good leader on the pitch. He's very vocal," Jones added.
"You can only learn from good players, and make yourself a better player by aspiring to play at their standard."
