Jim Moffat was previously manager of East Fife |
Second Division Forfar Athletic have appointed former East Fife boss Jim Moffat as their new manager. Moffat, who had two playing spells and a coaching stint with Forfar earlier in his career, will take charge of the Second Division side next week.
He spent almost four years at East Fife before being sacked last February.
Forfar chairman David McGregor said: "Despite the number of candidates we interviewed, we felt we had to go for someone experienced on this occasion."
Speculation had linked former Rangers players Gary Bollan and Stephen Wright with the job.
Forfar are bottom of the Second Division, 11 points adrift of safety, and sacked previous manager George Shaw on 18 March.
Moffat will start his new job after a pre-arranged youth football commitment in France this weekend, with captain Alan Rattray in charge for Saturday's home match against Stirling Albion.
He played for Montrose, Hamilton, Dunfermline, Brechin, East Fife, Montrose, East Stirlingshire, Albion Rovers and Cowdenbeath before moving into coaching.
Moffat had a spell as caretaker manager with Forfar following the departure of Ian McPhee but then moved on to Stirling Albion, where he was assistant to Ray Stewart.
Paul Tosh, who was Shaw's assistant and who had acted as caretaker at the weekend, has moved on this week to Arbroath on loan.
"Jim will be appointing his own management team within due course," said McGregor.
