Owers spent 15 months in charge of the Gloucestershire club |
Manager Gary Owers and his assistant Shaun Taylor have left Forest Green Rovers after four defeats from their opening four Conference games. Chairman Colin Gardner explained that the club's board of directors held a meeting with the pair after Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by Gravesend.
It was then "mutually agreed to terminate their (Owers' and Taylor's) employment with immediate effect".
Midfielder Paul Wanless has taken temporary charge of first-team affairs.
His first game in charge will be Bank Holiday Monday's trip to Stevenage.
Owers spent 15 months in charge of the Gloucestershire club, succeeding Alan Lewer as manager in May 2005.
At the time, Rovers believed they had been relegated from the Conference - but the following month, they were reprieved after Northwich were sent down because of issues over their ground.
But despite a move to full-time football last summer, their last season at The Lawn saw Forest Green only avoid relegation on the final day of the season.
Several new signings - and a move to a new stadium - have not improved results this term, with defeats by Dagenham & Redbridge, Exeter, Rushden & Diamonds and Gravesend & Northfleet in their first four games.
