Owers will take over the reins at Forest Green
Forest Green Rovers have appointed Gary Owers as their new manager.

The 36-year-old succeeds Alan Lewer, who left the Lawn following Rovers' relegation from the Conference.

Owers was signed for Rovers as a player by Nigel Spink in August 2002 and stayed until October 2003 when he left to become Bath City manager.

He was highly regarded by the Nailsworth club after a long professional career at Sunderland, Bristol City and Notts County.

Owers will take up his duties at the Lawn on 1 June.

His time at Bath has seen him take several Rovers to Twerton Park, including Ben Cleverley, Alex Sykes and Steve Perrin.

City finished sixth in the Southern League Premier Division last season, missing out on the play offs on goal difference, with Owers himself making 25 appearances.
