Anthony Stokes is top scorer in the SPL |
John Hughes knows nothing of a reported 700,000 bid from Celtic for Anthony Stokes but would not be surprised if offers came in for the on-loan striker. Arsenal refuse to comment about any interest and have not decided whether to extend Stokes' stay at Falkirk.
And the Bairns head coach told BBC Sport: "I've read the speculation, but it would not surprise me as he has scored 13 goals in 14 games for us."
Hughes remains hopeful that Stokes will remain with Falkirk after January.
"I've spoken to Arsenal and asked them to keep me informed," he said of the 18-year-old.
"I have my fingers crossed but respect that it is their decision.
"We would be delighted to keep him after Christmas."
Meanwhile, University College Dublin goalkeeper Darren Quigley will have to wait to find out if he will receive an offer from Hughes.
The 20-year-old was on trial at Falkirk Stadium last week following the end of the Irish league season.
"He did very, very well," said Hughes.
"He is out of contract, but there would a small fee for him and I will be looking at another two lads before making my mind up."
Meanwhile, Hughes expected Jeroen Lambers to be fit for this weekend despite the rib injury that forced the goalkeeper to go off injured after 26 minutes against Aberdeen on Saturday.
