Nash supported Everton as a child

Everton goalkeeper Carlo Nash believes the club's young players will benefit from their taste of action in the 1-0 Europa League defeat to BATE Borisov.

The veteran stopper, 36, made his full-debut for the Blues in a side including teenagers Adam Forshaw, Kieran Agard, Jake Bidwell and Shane Duffy.

"I thought they did well, the understanding was there," Nash told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"It was great for them to come in and put in some decent performances."

Nash added: "The majority of their team are internationals and it's invaluable experience for them."

The boyhood Evertonian arrived at Goodison Park as cover for Tim Howard from Stoke in September 2008.

He admitted to having mixed feelings following his first-team bow after 14 months of waiting.

"It was great to get involved and get my first game. I'm a perfectionist so there's always things I can do better but having said that it was nice to get out there and play."

Nash is aware he may be waiting a while to add to his solitary appearance to date against BATE on Thursday.

"Tim is a fantastic goalkeeper, he's so consistent and unfortunately for me he never gets injured so he's in the team every week.

"He has that consistency and an understanding with the players so it's great."
