Bakayogo has impressed in his 15 gamesfor Tranmere this season
Tranmere manager Les Parry has confirmed the club have offered defender Zoumana Bakayogo a contract and they are waiting for an answer.
The 23-year-old Frenchman's current deal ends in January.
"We put on deal down and we've put an improved one down - so we've actually made him two offers," said Parry.
"He's been trying to get hold of his agent to discuss it with him and not had much luck. But hopefully I'm going to trash that out."
Parry admitted on previous occasions that the financial situation at the club has meant the Prenton Park outfit are restricted in a deal they can put in place.
If he has got something lined up and he's not going to be here, we need to be looking to bring somebody else in
Tranmere boss Les Parry
Bakayogo made his Tranmere debut under Parry after he took caretaker charge of the team following the exit of John Barnes as manager in October.
The defender has been a regular in the first team since he joined the club on a short-term contract in October following spells at Millwall and Brighton.
Parry added: "We need to know one way or the other. If he has got something lined up and he's not going to be here, we need to be looking to bring somebody else in.
"It's not that much of a problem because Aaron Cresswell is a fine player and he'd fill the void without any question. But Zoom is in possession of that shirt at the moment.
"But if he's not here there is nothing we can do about that. But we're trying everything we can possibly do to keep him."
