Tranmere Rovers caretaker boss Les Parry has been appointed manager until the end of the season.

Parry, who has been in charge since the sacking of John Barnes in early October, as had an encouraging five wins and three draws as caretaker boss.

"Les stepped into the breach and immediately stabilised the situation," said chairman Peter Johnson.

"Not only did we go five matches unbeaten but we also picked up four clean sheets in six games."

Parry will be assisted by Shaun Garnett and Wayne Allison, who will both continue as coaches until the end of the season.

Parry's appointment means that the club are looking for a new physiotherapist.

Parry had been in that role since being appointed by Johnny King in 1993.

But club owner Johnson has been impressed with the way Parry has conducted himself during his time as boss.

Johnson added: "He has embraced the role with the level of dedication that has been typical of his work throughout his career at Tranmere.

"Les, along with Shaun Garnett and Wayne Allison, has the respect of the players and the staff at Tranmere and I firmly believe he is capable of guiding us away from the bottom of the division.

"I wish all three every success in their roles."
