Doncaster Rovers have signed centre-half Matthew Kilgallon on loan from Sunderland until the end of the season.
The 27-year-old started his career at Leeds United and also had a spell with local rivals Sheffield United.
He had previously signed a season-long loan deal with Middlesbrough but injury restricted him to just three games before he returned to Wearside.
Meanwhile, midfielders Robbie Clarke, 19, and Simon Whaley, 25, have both been allowed to leave the club.
