Ayala played 12 games on loan at Hull earlier this season
Derby County have shelved plans to sign Liverpool defender Daniel Ayala until next week's emergency loan window while he recovers from a hamstring injury.
The Rams have agreed a deal for the 20-year-old Spanish centre-half.
Boss Nigel Clough said: "We still want Daniel and are pretty confident that will happen, albeit later in February.
"He won't be ready for a number of weeks. It makes sense for everyone involved that Daniel continues his rehabilitation with Liverpool."
Clough added: "Liverpool have been tremendous to deal with throughout this process and I would like to thank Kenny Dalglish and Damien Comolli for their help and willingness to allow Daniel to come to Derby County."
