Dagenham & Redbridge assistant manager Terry Harris felt their disappointment at losing to Luton was a sign of the side's growing stature.
The Daggers dropped to tenth in League Two after their 2-1 defeat on Saturday.
Harris told BBC Essex: "The time has come now where we've come away having got beaten and been disappointed, so that's a measure of how far we've come.
"But that doesn't take away the disappointment of our first half performance," he added.
"They've got some good players and fair credit to them, but I thought we never got the rub of the green, we never got those little knock-downs and it was disappointing to come away with the defeat," he added.
The Daggers will look to get back to winning ways on Tuesday when they host Hereford in an FA Cup first round replay at Victoria Road.
