Crewe's Clayton Donaldson hungry for goals

Crewe striker Clayton Donaldson says he is determined to record his best scoring season in a Crewe shirt.

Donaldson scored 13 league goals last season but is well on his way to beating that having netted eight times in 16 appearances already this term.

"I finished with 13 last year so I'm going to try and better myself and I'd obviously love to get more than 20.

"I want to get as many goals as I can for the team," the 26-year-old told BBC Radio Stoke.

Donaldson's career-best tally came in 2006/7 when he bagged 24 goals for York City in the Conference.

That earned him a move to Scottish Premier League side Hibernian but despite notching five goals from 11 starts, he was sold to Crewe in 2008.

Early in his Alex career Donaldson struggled to find his best form but he, Byron Moore and Shaun Miller have formed an encouraging front-three partnership in recent weeks.

"They're performing well, Byron's our little outlet on the wing and Shaun's come in and got a few goals himself so we've got a decent little squad.

"I'm just going into games trying to get the goals to help the team get back up the league," he added.
