Crewe manager Dario Gradi is confident that striker Clayton Donaldson will recover from a knee problem in time to face Hereford United on Saturday.
Donaldson, 26, was hurt in the 2-0 victory over Wrexham on 31 July.
"It was a nasty whack and at the time it looked serious so he came off," Gradi told BBC Radio Stoke.
"I think he's done a little bit of damage around the knee, but everybody seems to be quite hopeful that he will be fit fairly quickly."
Donaldson has been playing alongside Calvin Zola and Shaun Miller as part of a three-man attack for Crewe during pre-season.
The former York City and Hibernian forward scored 13 goals for the Alex in League Two in 2009/10, despite missing two months with a broken leg.
