Crewe boss Dario Gradi praises Byron Moore in wing role
Crewe's win over Gillingham ended a run of four successive defeats
Crewe manager Dario Gradi praised the performance of Byron Moore after his Alex team won 3-1 at Gillingham.
Moore, 22, scored the opening goal at the Priestfield Stadium and Gradi feels the striker has performed well since moving out to the wing.
"He was a real threat and caused Gillingham a lot of problems," he told BBC Radio Stoke.
"We know the qualities he's got - maybe he'll do better as a winger who has still got to score goals," he added.
The goal was Moore's third of the season, a total he has yet to surpass in any of his three campaigns as a first-team player.
Gradi admitted that the Stoke-born academy graduate may lack the killer instinct necessary to become a prolific striker but sees his pace, athleticism and direct running as ideal in his new role out wide.
"As a striker he doesn't have the desire to get into the box enough," said Gradi.
"You'd have to say that Clayton [Donaldson], Shaun [Miller] and AJ [Leitch-Smith] have got great desire to get into the six-yard box. Byron hasn't shown that."
