Crewe's Lee Bell apologises for supporter row

Crewe midfielder Lee Bell has apologised to the club's fans after the Alex's capitulation at Chesterfield.

In an extraordinary game, Crewe led 4-1 before eventually leaving the B2net Stadium with a 5-5 draw.

At the end of the match, frustrations boiled over and Bell became involved in a spat with an Alex fan.

"[The fans] were great but I've had a bit of a ding-dong with one of them at the end so I apologise for that," he told BBC Radio Stoke.

The 27-year-old admitted that the team's performance deserved the criticism emanating from the away support at the end of the game.

"It was just a bit of frustration from me and frustration from them which I can totally understand," he added.

We keep saying there have been improvements but we just need to get some wins

"They pay good money to come to the stadium to see grown men just capitulate and we apologise for that.

"They were fantastic, they were clapping again at the end."

Crewe manager Dario Gradi had called for more goals from his side after a run of five draws in six games.

While the desired improvement in attack arrived, Crewe's defensive display, which included the conceding of two penalties, ruined any chance the team had to collect three points.

Bell believes that Crewe have performed fairly well this season but he also admits that they need to start turning some of those draws into victories.

"We keep saying there have been improvements but we just need to get some wins," he said.
