Jack Lester and Danny Whitaker both scored twice as Chesterfield fought back to draw a thriller with Crewe.
Crewe raced into a 3-0 lead through a Luke Murphy header, Lee Bell's 20-yard free kick and Byron Moore's finish.
Lester headed in to pull one back, but Shaun Miller rounded Tommy Lee for 4-1 before another Lester header and a Whitaker penalty gave the hosts hope.
Clayton Donaldson tapped in for 5-3, but another Whitaker spot kick and Craig Clay's 25-yarder secured a draw.
It was a stunning end to a captivating contest which Crewe must have thought they had all-but won when they went into the break 4-1 up, and again when they led 5-3 with only minutes left.
But in truth, Chesterfield, who are second in League Two, dominated the second half and had hit the bar through Dean Morgan before Lester kicked off the stunning finale by making it 4-2.
Crewe could certainly not have asked for a better start as they stormed into a 3-0 lead within the opening 13 minutes.
Moore swung in a cross to the back post for Murphy to nod in the opener, before Bell found the top right corner with his precise free-kick and a defensive error then let in Moore to make it three.
Lester met Morgan's cross to pull one back, but Crewe did not take long to restore their three-goal cushion as Miller slotted home to make it 4-1 in only the 26th minute.
That was the way it stayed until the 73rd minute when Lester nodded in Craig Davies' cross, and when Whitaker drove in from the spot after Morgan had been tripped minutes later, Crewe were rocking.
Donaldson seemed to have steadied those nerves when he netted from close range.
But a grandstand finish was assured when Whitaker coolly converted a second penalty, with Clay capping an amazing game by securing the Spireites a point in the third minute of stoppage time.
Chesterfield boss John Sheridan told BBC Sheffield: "You can look at it in both ways. 4-1 down in the first half and in the second half we should have gone on to win the game.
"The goals that we have conceded today have been very poor.
"We'll look at the goals and I'll show the players but to come back 4-1 down, you'll never do that in your career so credit to them."
