Crewe boss Dario Gradi makes case for Alex's defence
Veteran Alex boss Dario Gradi is optimistic about his team's prospects
Crewe Alexandra boss Dario Gradi says his side's return to form has been built on better defending as a team.
After thrashing Barnet 7-0 a week ago, then taking Ipswich to extra time in the Carling Cup in midweek, the Alex made a creditable 1-1 draw at Lincoln.
"As a team we're defending better," Gradi told BBC Radio Stoke.
"The forwards are defending and the midfielders as well. You can't fault the effort. We are going to be harder to beat - onwards and upwards."
But, as always, Gradi is still looking for his side to retain possession and pass the ball more effectively in a bid to earn a second league win of the season at news boys Stevenage next Saturday.
"Our passing will be better," promised Gradi. "We've got one or two who can do a bit better than they did on Saturday."
Although they beat Derby County 1-0 in the first round of the Carling Cup, Crewe made a poor start to the new League Two season with two defeats either side, but they have now picked up four points from a possible six to rise to 13th in the table.
