Crewe boss Dario Gradi may put Steve Davis in charge

Crewe boss Dario Gradi may place assistant Steve Davis in charge for the last three games of the season.

The move would allow Gradi to scout potential signings as he looks to draw up a list of summer transfer targets.

Gradi told the club website: "I may allow Steve to take charge because it will be good for him and allow me to go out and scout.

"We know what we need but it is never easy signing players. We would have to sell before we could buy."

Gradi added: "We certainly won't have a lot of money to spend because we have spent quite a lot on this team already."

The Crewe manager must decide on the futures of several first-team players out of contract at the end of the season including Steven Schumacher and Danny O'Donnell.

He will also weigh up whether to turn loan deals for Simon Walton, Harry Worley and Steve Phillips into permanent contracts.

"I am not looking for eight or nine players, but if we could get three or four in then that would do us fine," said Gradi.

"We have the nucleus of a good team here if we can keep them all.

"We need someone to head the ball out of our box because we have looked vulnerable from set plays and corners all season.

"A clinical striker would be nice as well. They are not easy to find though."
