Billy Jones disappointed to be leaving Crewe Alexandra
Billy Jones' last game for Crewe was against Port Vale in October
Billy Jones says he will be sad to leave Crewe at the end of the season when his contract expires.
The 26-year-old left-back, who began the season as the club captain, has already been told that he will not be offered a new deal in the summer.
"That's football, I know I won't be playing here next season and I've got to establish myself somewhere else now," Jones told BBC Radio Stoke.
Jones joined the Alex from Exeter, then a non-league club, for £65,000 in 2007.
"People say to me that I should never have left Exeter because they're above Crewe, but you never know that at the time," he continued.
"It was a chance to jump back into league football, and I thank Crewe for that opportunity."
He has made 83 starts for the South Cheshire side, scoring nine goals, although his last appearance for Crewe was in the 2-1 defeat against Port Vale in October.
Jones will be among hundreds of players looking for fresh employment during the summer, but he is confident that he will remain in the Football League.
"You can't just take the first thing that comes along," said Jones.
"Teams are waiting for the season to end and hopefully I've done enough in the previous three years to go and play elsewhere."
