Jones was named captain following the departure of Julien Baudet
Crewe captain Billy Jones is hopeful that manager Gudjon Thordarson will be able to strengthen the Alex squad.
Injuries have put a strain on an already small group of young players, and Jones told BBC Radio Stoke that the size of the squad is a worry.
"The gaffer knows where we're lacking, but we have a very young squad that are hungry and want to do well," he said.
Crewe's run of three consecutive victories was ended with a 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth on Saturday.
Thordarson's side have a chance to bounce back quickly on Tuesday when they host Stockport in the first round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
"It's important to dust ourselves off and prepare for that game," added Jones.
"I'm not sure what the manager's going to do, whether he's planning to make a few changes, but whoever plays will be giving it their all to win the game."
