Liam Feeney's goal early in the second half helped Bournemouth overcome fellow early pace-setters Crewe and complete their third consecutive 1-0 home win.
The winger picked the ball up 15 yards inside the Crewe half, beat captain Billy Jones and fired a powerful shot past goalkeeper Adam Legzdkins.
Feeney could have had a hat-trick, firing two more efforts wide and high.
Crewe's Calvin Zola headed wide from a corner, and Cherries keeper Shwan Jalal denied Byron Moore in stoppage time.
Feeney's goal was the first that Crewe had conceded in five-and-a-half hours of football.
Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe told BBC Radio Solent:
"It was always going to be a tough game. Crewe are a very good side, I knew they would make it difficult for us.
"I did think about tinkering with the formation... and then this morning I woke up and thought we should stick to 4-4-2, thankfully it paid off for us.
"It was getting nervy but we held on and that's the main thing."
Crewe boss Gudjon Thordarsson told BBC Radio Stoke:
"There was too much hesitation and we didn't do the simple things right so performance below par I think.
"We wanted an intense game and wanted to go for it from the very beginning, but it didn't work out.
"I made changes and brought on more attacking players but it didn't work."
