Thordarson is looking to rebuild his squad after being relegated
Crewe boss Gudjon Thordardson has said he will only offer what Alexandra can afford and will not be drawn into long negotiations with players.
The Alex boss is preparing for life in League Two next season and has released 10 players following their relegation.
Thordarson told BBC Radio Stoke: "It's good to work with my board, they know what they're doing and we will be careful in our approach."
Crewe have so far made one new signing, Histon defender Patrick Ada.
Thordarson believes the power pendulum will finally swing back in Football League clubs' favour this summer.
Because of the current financial climate, clubs across the country are being forced to trim their squads, resulting in a larger pool of free agents willing to take significant wage cuts in order to secure a deal with a new club.
Thordarson said: "It is not always possible to offer players what they think they are worth, things should be changing with that because there are a lot of options out there and players could be finding themselves out of work."
