Thordarson's Crewe went down after failing to win in their last 10 games
Crewe Alexandra boss Gudjon Thordarson is closing in on a couple of transfer targets, as he rebuilds his squad.
He has allowed 10 players to leave following their relegation to League Two and needs new centre-backs.
He told BBC Radio Stoke: "I have been in touch with a defender in Denmark and I am still hopeful that Dennis Lawrence will return to the club.
"I have a good crop of younger players but I want to add experience to get the balance right."
The former Iceland boss has admitted that with the season just about coming to a close for the majority of clubs, the transfer market is still slow in its progress.
The Alex looked likely to avoid relegation at one stage this season after a revival following Thordarson's appointment, but failed to win in their last 10 games and went down.
Meanwhile, Crewe have confirmed they will play Premier League newcomers Birmingham City on Tuesday, 4 August at 1930 BST.
